TJMS Ensembles

6th Grade Band

Welcome to the 6th Grade Band at TJMS, where your musical journey begins! This year, students develop foundational skills on their instrument, learning to read music, play with proper technique, and perform in small and large groups. Our 6th graders meet daily for lessons to strengthen their skills and attend a full ensemble rehearsal once a week before school, giving them the chance to make music together. Expect an exciting introduction to rhythm, melody, and teamwork, setting the stage for years of musical growth.       6th-grade full ensemble rehearsal takes place on Monday mornings from 7:30 AM-8:30 AM.

7th Grade Band

The 7th Grade Band builds on the skills learned in 6th grade and takes your musicianship to the next level. Students continue daily lessons to refine their technique, expand their musical knowledge, and explore more challenging music. Our weekly before-school ensemble rehearsal strengthens teamwork, listening skills, and stage presence. This is a year of growth, discovery, and musical excitement as students tackle increasingly complex rhythms and harmonies while preparing for performances that showcase their talents. 7th-grade full ensemble rehearsal takes place on Wednesday mornings from 7:30 AM-8:30 AM

8th Grade Band

The 8th-Grade Band is the pinnacle of our middle school program, offering students a full ensemble experience during the school day. Musicians tackle advanced repertoire that challenges both technical skill and musical expression, preparing them for high school band and beyond. Daily lessons focus on refining individual performance, while ensemble rehearsals cultivate teamwork, leadership, and confidence on stage. This year, students perform with precision, musicality, and pride, culminating in performances that celebrate three years of dedication and growth.

Jazz Band

The TJMS Jazz Band is an audition-only ensemble where students explore jazz, swing, blues, and improvisation. This group features all band instruments plus Drum Set, Electric Guitar, Bass Guitar, and Keyboard—students on these instruments should already know how to play. Mr. Lopez will provide audition music in the first few weeks of school, so see him if you want to try out! Rehearsals are on Tuesday mornings from 7:30–8:15 AM

TJMS Wind Ensemble

The TJMS Wind Ensemble is an invitation-only group for advanced middle school musicians, performing challenging middle school and entry-level high school repertoire. Students are selected by Mr. Lopez and will be notified if invited to join. The ensemble meets for rehearsal every Friday morning from 7:30–8:15 AM, giving students the opportunity to refine their technique, play demanding music, and perform at a high level.

Before the Bell Band

Before the Bell Band is not a performing ensemble, but a support session held on Thursdays from 7:30–8:30 AM. Students can come for extra help with their instruments, music, or band assignments, either individually or in small groups, with guidance from Mr. Lopez. It’s a great opportunity to strengthen skills, get personalized instruction, and make the most of your practice time before the school day begins.
