INSTRUMENT PURCHASES
If you intend to purchase an instrument for your child, I would be more than happy to assist you. Please avoid purchasing instruments from non-music store vendors. These instruments often break and are unable to be fixed. These instruments are also usually very difficult to play in tune and will give your child an extra obstacle to overcome!

SCHOOL-OWNED INSTRUMENTS
Students who will be using school-owned instruments will be required to sign a contract (as well as the parents), agreeing to take care of the instruments and assigning responsibility to the student for the instrument.
MAINTENANCE OF INSTRUMENTS
Woodwinds should have at least five good reeds at all times, and rotate each reed. All mouthpieces should be cleaned at home. If the instrument breaks, it should be taken to the repair shop immediately. Names of reputable shops have been included in this handbook. A note from the parent or receipt of repair must be presented in order to eliminate the deduction of points from the student’s grade for non-participation in class.

IDENTIFICATION AND SECURITY OF INSTRUMENTS
Names should be plainly visible on the exterior side of the case. You can purchase (at any music dealer or retail store) a nametag for the instrument. Parents should have a copy of the serial number of the instrument stored in a safe place at home.
