District Writing Assessments are used as Title I qualifiers.
District Writing Assessments (DWA) are administered in the Fall and Spring to Grades K-5 by homeroom teachers and scored by the Writing Assessment Committee members. Kindergarten and First Grade complete Sentence Dictation and 2nd-5th handwrite in response to a writing prompt.
Mode Specific Rubrics (Informative/Explanatory, Narrative, Opinion/Argumentative) are used throughout the year to score student writing in class to guide instruction in each Quality of Writing (Focus, Content, Organization, Style, Conventions).
Prompts, Rubrics, and Directions are reviewed yearly by members of the WA Committee. We welcome your feedback and thoughts.
Contact Meg Rishel to schedule explicit training on administering DWA or using the rubrics to score classroom work if needed.
