The National Junior Honor Society or NJHS is the nation’s premier organization established to recognize outstanding junior high school students.
More than just an honor roll, NJHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, Citizenship, and Character.
Induction into the National Junior Honor Society is a prestigious distinction awarded only to the most deserving students. Few are nominated for induction, and even fewer are accepted into the organization.
NJHS membership not only recognizes students for their accomplishments but also challenges them to develop further through active involvement in school activities and community service.
Each year, following the NJHS national guidelines, the organization collectively dedicates countless hours to school and community service projects as well as fundraisers for local, national, and international charities. Instilling these values early in life helps to lay the groundwork for a lifetime of service.
Nominated students interested in applying for acceptance into the Eagle Pass Junior High School National Junior Honor Society completed an application listing their attributes and personal achievements. They met certain criteria, filled out an application, and asked teachers to write letters of recommendation. These applications were meticulously reviewed by our faculty selection committee for the qualities each National Junior Honor Society member must possess.
The National Junior Honor Society qualities include:
Scholarship: The Scholarship quality is a commitment to learning by a student who is willing to spend hours reading and studying. Knowledge is one great element in life that leads to the highest success, and it can only be acquired through dedication and hard work. Each student must have a minimum cumulative GPA from7th and 8th grade of no less than 94 to even be considered for this award.
Leadership: Leadership can influence an entire school, community, or country. In taking the initiative in class and school activities, the real leader works with others toward the same objective. A leader has self-confidence and will go forward when others hesitate. At Eagle Pass Junior High School, we are fortunate to have a strong leader in Ms. Ysenia Lopez.
Service: In the routine of the day’s activity, many opportunities arise to help others. Willingness to work for the benefit of those in need, without monetary compensation or recognition, is the quality we seek in our membership. We are committed to the idea of volunteering our time and abilities for the creation of a better tomorrow.
Character is the force within each individual, which distinguishes one person from another; it gives each one of us individuality. As Jiminy Cricket tells Pinocchio, let your conscience be your guide to make the right choices. By demonstrating such qualities as respect, responsibility, trustworthiness, fairness, caring, and citizenship, we show that we value character.
Students being inducted will receive a certificate commemorating their induction and will be signing the Eagle Pass Junior High School National Junior Honor Society induction book that will be signed each year by future inductees.
We encourage the students of Eagle Pass Junior High School NJHS to:
earn and maintain exemplary grades
focus on their future goals
be respectful
be kind to and help other
become a member of a group, team, or organization
volunteer
strive to be the best version of themselves
