AIG Identified students receive differentiated services through their language arts and math classes in middle school. High school students are able to self-select courses granted they meet prerequisites.
Language Arts
Students identified as AIG in reading may take Advanced English Language Arts.
Middle School: Our Advanced Language Arts courses integrate the Common Core curriculum with thematic units created by the Center for Gifted Education at the College of William and Mary. These instructional units challenge students to perform at a high academic level and provide activities designed to promote higher-level thinking skills, creativity, vocabulary development, proper use of grammar, divergent thinking, problem-solving skills, reading comprehension, critical reading skills and the writing process.

High School English I if students meet criteria
High School: Students desiring to engage in rigorous coursework in high school may select either Honors or Advanced Placement (AP) English. Students enrolled in AP classes will have to take the AP exam at the end of the year around May. A passing score of may result in the student receiving college credit, however this may vary between institutions.
Math
Middle School: Students identified as AIG in math or who meet district criteria may take advanced math classes. Please see the graphic below for DPS criteria.
Our Accelerated Math courses provide instructional units that challenge students to perform at a high academic level and provide rigor through curriculum compacting, acceleration and inquiry-based lessons. These units are designed to teach students to reason and communicate effectively in mathematics. Placement beyond the options below will have to be reviewed through a waiver process.

[Students enrolled in Math I will earn high school credit upon successful completion. Grades earned will appear on their high school transcript. If students do not pass, they will have to repeat Math I and this will also appear on their transcript.]

Science, Social Studies/History and Electives
Even though Social Studies, Science, and elective courses are heterogeneously-grouped, students receiving services in the AIG program should expect to receive rigorous learning opportunities that promote high levels of learning and engagement.
Remember that high school students can self-select Honors and AP classes as long as prerequisites are met.
