EXCITING Changes are coming to AP beginning with the 2019-2020 school year. Parents and students are encouraged to learn more about how students can successfully take an AP course using the new supports offered by College Board and earn college credit while still in school. Did you know that NC state legislation now demands that all UNC system schools accept all passing levels for AP exams? This decision was made to provide equity and access for all students who rose to the challenge, completed course at their school, and passed the AP test with a level 3 or higher. Please view the links below for more information.
UNC SYSTEM STANDARDIZES AP CREDIT POLICY:
In July 2018, the Board of Governors passed a new System-wide Advanced Placement (AP) credit policy. This new policy, a shared top priority of both President Spellings and the Board's Committee on Strategic Initiatives, will make a score of “three” or higher the standard for credit across the 16 universities in the System. The result will provide students with equal footing to gain college credit, improve degree efficiency, and increase demand for college-level courses in high schools across the state. (NCDPI, 2018)
SCS currently offers the following AP courses:
AP US History
AP Language and Composition
AP Literature and Composition
AP Calculus (Online via NCVPS)
AP Psychology (Online via NCVPS)
AP Biology
Students enrolled in AP courses will have a summer assignment and will need to commit to the AP contract provided by their teacher. Additionally, students are expected to take the AP exam in May 2020.
