Learning Target: I can pair program and use my resources to create an app from a chosen concept.
Concepts/ Vocab this lesson: .jpg, .png, .bmp, .webp, .mp3, .wav, .mov, .mp4, .wmv, .html (put these in four slots grouped by file type)
Task 1: Build an App based on the Concept Card you draw
Now that you have learned some basics, you will be able to add to your background knowledge by attempting other concepts. You will draw a Concept Card along with one other student.
You will be paired with that student to create an app using the concept mentioned. You must add two more. However, don't stop there! Challenge yourself to use your creativity to put concepts together to make a unique app. You are NOT done until time is up:) Don't just mimic an app you've already created. Think of this like legos. I gave you a handful of Legos (the Legos are the Concept links). You just start building. Don’t try to think of what to build, just start building. This is an exercise in creativity. You don’t want to have a creation of just one block. Use the time provided to make the app do what you want it to. Use this opportunity to try things out and use blocks that you haven’t used before.
You may find the AI2 Basic Concepts here.
You may also find sounds here or in copyright free images and sounds here (if Soundbible doesn't allow you to download: open link by clicking on the name of the sound effect>right click on .wav button> select 'open link in new window'>put your cursor in the url bar> click 'Enter'). Make sure while looking for image files you are looking for .jpg, .png, .bmp, or .webp files; if you are looking for sound files you are looking for .mp3 or .wav files. You will not want to attempt to download video files (.mov, .mp4, .wmv) as they are not sound or image files. .html files are webpages and typically won't work in this app.
You may also use Google's Advanced Search as long as you select free to use, share and modify under usage rights.
The Concept Card ideas are events (things that the user does to the app to initiate an action). Think of concepts like verbs, not nouns. Playing a sound, switching screens, dragging a sprite are concepts; elements that require coding.
Task 2: Test and screen record your app
Be sure when you record that you write your three concepts in the private comment. Turn in the recording.
Task 3: Adding to Your Reflection Blog
Go to your Reflection Blog to the entry "Events." Define the term 'events' and explain the three of them that you used in your app.
