In-Car Instruction (step 5)
WHEN WILL MY CHILD DRIVE?
1. After successful completion of the On-Line portion of the class, all students' Restricted Permits are assigned to one of our Driver Education Instructors.
Before they are eligible to drive, they must:
Pay the $65 fee
Turn in a completed Restricted Permit (with the DMV sign-off on the eye exam)
Complete and pass all of the modules in the Canvas class
Pass the final exam
2. Permits are ordered by class number, oldest to youngest. However, Younger students will be mixed in with the significantly older ones so they won't have to wait so long. Actual driving schedules will vary and cannot be predicted.
3. An instructor will contact you at the number you have provided on your Restricted Instruction Permit. You will be scheduled for a total of 12 In-Car hours; we will work with your schedule as much as possible. Make sure you know the name of the instructor and when & where you will meet them.
4. Expect to drive either after school for 2-3-hour sessions or on non-school days for 4-6-hour sessions until all 12 hours are completed.
WHY IS MY CHILD NOT SCHEDULED? We often fall behind with driving. If you don't want to wait, there are several local private driving schools. Students can take the 30-hour course at Davie and do the in-car hours with a private school. Parents will need to contact the private school so they can coordinate with Davie.
IMPORTANT TO UNDERSTAND----We do not drive students exactly in order of age. We mix in the much older students and every instructor offers different schedules. A student could start after their best friend, but finish before. We try to be fair, but have too many instructors, students, and schedules to be predictable.
What Does My Child Need During IN-CAR?
Wear glasses or contacts if required.
Sunglasses are recommended.
Do not wear scents--some people are sensitive
Bring some cash for food/snacks during a break--optional!
Masks are optional
