Slow Jam Playground with Deborah Clark
Beginner Friendly: No experience needed. We are going to the playground.
We will bring safe space for each other. We will take turns choosing a tune or tune type, feeling, etc. You can ask for a tune you don't know at all. You can start or lead a tune yourself or ask someone else to. You can bring your music. We will play your tune at your tempo. We will find some chords if we need them. You don't have to play unless you want to. We might talk about catching a few notes on the fly. We might talk about other ways to play along. We will try things we can't do. Sometimes the music will crash and burn. Then we will play some more music.
Intergenerational Afternoon Classes
Play in a Dance Band! (Instrument Proficiency 9+) with Al and Alice White
Learn the basic elements of contra and square dance music while playing jigs, reels, and tune medleys. We'll discuss things like selecting tunes and medleys, band layouts, and playing in a pick-up band situation as well as playing in an established band. Bring your instrument and let's give it a workout! Some will be learning by ear, but sheet music will be provided also.
Sound Tech (Application/Selection) with Jared Kirkpatrick
If you already have some experience with running sound, this is the workshop for you! We'll talk about sound systems of all kinds, and techniques that apply broadly across any kind of dance event. It'll be a small group, so each person will get hands-on experience to practice and learn, as well as a chance to help out during the evening dances later in the week.
*This is a workshop for those with some experience already under their belt - it will not be an introductory workshop.*
Mummer's Play (9+)
Mummers' Plays are a super fun and comic folk theater tradition from the British Isles, although with a complicated history. You may know some of the familiar stock characters - such as Saint George, the Doctor and the Dragon. Everyone is welcome to come and have fun with us as we flip this dramatic form on its head and play at creating our own play.
Paper Bag Marionette Workshop (9+)
Students will design, construct, detail, and dress a functional marionette using recyclable paper materials. They will be guided step-by-step through a simple construction process, leaving plenty of room for creativity as they personalize their puppets. They will then learn to operate their marionettes and can participate in a short performance.
Mini Book-a-Day with Annie Fain Barralon
Teen Dance Band with Maia Loiacono
Skills Swaps - Camper Led
Swim and Camp Activities
MUMMERS PROGRAM (10-12)

Junior Dance Calling Workshop with Harrison Keely
Have you ever wondered what it’s like to be the person guiding the dance? In this fun, hands-on class, young dancers will learn the basics of calling folk dances in a supportive, encouraging environment. We’ll explore how to project your voice with confidence, teach dance moves, and work with live music.
Performative Paper Workshop with Pearl Shirley and Julia Weatherford
Students will learn to transform a variety of paper products into dynamic objects they can use or wear. Each day will introduce projects that magically become three dimensional, have an unexpected function, or float, flap, or fly. Skills will involve cutting, coloring, folding, gluing.
REVELERS PROGRAM (ages 7-9)
PlayParty Songs & Dances with Hazel Jodock
Song with Maia Loiacono
Find your inner, creative voice alongside friends. We will learn about the voice and the many ways we use it to express ourselves. We will explore rounds, create harmonies, laugh and learn silly songs, discover historical songs and their purposes, and experience the joy of singing with a group.
Craft with Hazel Jodock
CHILDGROVE PROGRAM (ages 2-6, 0-2 welcome with adult)
Rise and Shine and Outdoor Explore with Stacy Blair
Let your hair down while creating sand and rock empires, splashing in the creek, frolicking on the lawn or observing critters (possibilities from armadillos to tiny tree frogs to swallows nests) with a great group of friends.
Music and Movement with Rachel Shapiro Wallace
Start the day with songs, fingerplays, singing games and dances, all especially for our youngest campers. We'll sing about animals, explore dance and movement and get a close-up look at some of the instruments played around camp. Parents are welcome to join their kids.
Craft and Story Time with Rachel Shapiro Wallace
Tap into your creative side by using bits of nature to make fun art. Focused on natural materials that can easily be returned to the earth, or recyclable materials. We will build little treasures and also something to share with our friends at camp.
AFTERNOON & EVENING PROGRAMMING
Skill Swap
Community lead workshops or class sessions. Could be anything!- an afternoon of games, crafting an art project, discussion on dance communities, foraging for mushrooms, slow jams, swapping clogging steps, a round of rounds, etc. Go to a pick-up class from a world class folkie and/or take a class from an 8 year old. Maybe you'll lead, maybe you'll choose your own adventure.
Camp Activities
Swimming in a cool swimming hole with slide and beach area is offered every afternoon. Another camp activity is offered alongside swim time. Examples of potential offerings are axe throwing, ziplining, boating, giant swing, climbing wall, etc. These activities are all overseen by NaCoMe camp counselors.
Gathering
We come together toward the end of our day to share in song, skit, story, comedy, performance, talents, special moments, joy, harmony, readings, and.... announcements! Not to be missed. What might you share?
