Frequently Asked Questions
Usage
How frequently should I record lessons?
To get the best data about your teaching practices, it is recommended that you record one lesson a week. The hardest part is just remembering to record your lessons!
How long should a lesson be?
In order for TeachFX to capture data, the lesson has to be at least five minutes.
Should I use Teach FX during small group/centers?
Since the purpose of TeachFX is to give you feedback on your high leverage teaching practices, you will want to make sure the device is recording your lesson. If you are doing a lesson with a small group of students, you could record the lesson, however, you would not want it at a student table recording their work and conversations because it would not be able to capture data about your teaching practices.
Language Settings
What language should it be set to?
The language setting should match the language of your instruction. If you teach in Spanish, set the language to Spanish. If you teach in English, set the language to English.
What if I have a number of students with thick accents or who speak mixed English/Spanish?
Set the language to the language you are instructing in. Because TeachFX is about teaching practices, it will not greatly impact your data. The place you might see an effect is in the student word cloud.
Devices
Which device will work best for recording audio?
A phone or your iPad would probably work better than your computer.
What if we get notifications? Will that impact the recording?
While a chat notification may not interrupt, something like a phone call could disrupt the recording. It is recommended that you turn on "do not disturb" during the time of your recording.
Can I use other apps to present from my iPad while also using my iPad to record?
Yes, you can present from your iPad while you record a lesson. However, anything with audio might interfere.
Privacy
What about student privacy?
TeachFX is FERPA and COPPA compliant. Your students are safe!
If I am using my phone, will the app collect any information from my phone?
No, TeachFX does not collect any data outside of the application.
Who can see my lesson data?
Just you! You are able to share it with other TeachFX users. However, you will meet with a coach to discuss your lesson data and goals.
Goal Setting
Can I make my own goals for the high leverage practices?
Yes, but TeachFX will start you with a goal. If you decide to continue working on that high leverage teaching practice, you will be able to set your own goal.
Can I set multiple goals?
You will have one focus goal. Focusing on one area of improvement will have a higher impact! However, you are able to see data for all of the high leverage teaching practices.
Lesson Data
What data is available?
How you are performing on your focus goal with specific examples from the lesson
Student vs. teacher talk time
Word clouds for teacher word use and student word use
The other teaching practices and how often they were used
