Small Group Counseling

What is small group counseling?

Small groups provide not only opportunities for additional learning experiences but also a time to grow together with fellow students.  Small groups give students a chance to belong, a chance to express themselves, and a chance to benefit from the support of group members. Groups are activity-based and students typically look forward to this special time!  Students are referred to small group counseling based on a number of factors including classroom observations; parent, teacher/staff, or self-referral.  Additionally, students may be invited to attend a group as a peer buddy.

Small group counseling is offered to students throughout the year.  These are small groups, ranging from 2 to 5 students, that meet weekly.  Some groups meet weekly for the entire year while others meet for only 6 -10 weeks.  Students really enjoy this experience!  Because school counseling services are for ALL kids, any child may be invited to join.  Many of the group topics are a nice compliment to what the students are learning in guidance classes.

If your child is invited, a notice will be sent home to let you know!  Of course, if you have any questions please feel free to call me.  Small group counseling is voluntary so you may choose not to have your child participate.
