Mathematical Modeling

Michael Stobb

Joining the faculty in 2019, Dr. Stobb has been active in the creation and development of the Data Science program at Coe.  His research background lies mostly in Mathematical Modeling, Mathematical Biology, and Uncertainty Quanitification.  Most of the current focus revolves around the use of Machine Learning and its applications to novel fields.

Working closely with Dr. Stobb, REU students will build a synthetic data set of NMR spectra for use in training their own NN model utilizing local computational resources. Students would gain an understanding of the theory behind deconvolution and its ill-posed nature. They would review classical methods for deconvolving NMR spectra before moving on to DNN models.

Dr. Stobb is member of the Mathematical Sciences department mstobb@coe.edu.
