Wyn Irwin Lodge

Wyn Irwin, Foliage Hill is the CMC's base at Aoraki/Mt Cook. It was extensively refurbished in 1991.

The hut has 16 bunks and a warden's room. This hut has solar powered lighting, gas cooking and water heating, diesel backup generator, also as of 27/10/08 there is a diesel heater in the lounge Please read

Instructions to light. An inverter from the solar battery is available to

charge cell phones or run a radio,internal shower and washroom,& a flush toilet in the outer shed, leather lounge suite, carpet, lounge dining tables, stainless steel sink and benches, pots and pans, plates and cutlery.

A key code is required for access. For the current code, contact the Huts Officer Robin Muirson on 027 434 4122 or 03 357 4800.

Wyn Irwin is a fantastic place to base yourself for mountaineering in the Aoraki/Mount Cook region. Resident hut warden Cam Mulvey will welcome you upon arrival and will be happy to provide you with helpful local knowledge of access routes, mountain conditions and route beta. Cam is a keen ski-mountaineer with an extensive knowledge of the area. The hut library is replete with quality NZ mountain literature to entertain you on bad weather days.

Wyn Irwin hut is located in the White Horse car-park in the Hooker valley, near the trail head to the Mueller hut track. At the end of the Hooker Valley road, keep turning left as you enter the White Horse Hill carpark.

Lodge Fees

Lodge fees are payable by cash before you leave, please bring the correct amount. Fees are: $10 per night (members), $25 for non-members, children 12 & under free, 13-17 $8.00 per night.

If there is no warden in residence, please complete the hut book with your name, address and number of nights you stayed.

Lodge fees can be paid by direct credit to the CMC account 03 1592 0103242 00, putting your name and the hut name in the payment details. Alternatively send a cheque to the Club Treasurer, PO Box 2415, Christchurch with a note of your name and the hut you stayed in.
