Service Learning Project: Stepping Stones and BIAB
Students create stepping stones, connecting to their study of Earth's materials, and sell them to donate money to Blessings in a Backpack to help support some of Sashabaw's students who have a need of a meal.

One in five American children face food insecurity - more than the populations of New York City, Los Angeles and Chicago combined. During the school week, most of these children depend on the federal free and reduced meal program their school offers. Sometimes, the meals at school are the only ones they get. When the school closes it doors on Friday afternoon, many of these children go home to empty cupboards and empty bellies for 65 hours until they return to school on Monday morning (posted on http://blessingsinabackpack.org/).
Make Your Stepping Stones!!
Blessings in a Backpack-Clarkston is a “neighbor-helping-neighbor” program that is designed to help bridge the gap of the nutritional needs of children from Clarkston Community Schools. Each week, we distribute backpacks filled with enough non-perishable food for the weekend to students that qualify on the Federal Free and Reduced Lunch program. The goal of Blessings in a Backpack is to keep these students from going hungry on the weekends and remove barriers to academic success (posted on http://www.blessingsinabackpackmi.org/clarkston/)
