The StarBoard is a touchscreen surface even when not using the accompanying StarBoard software. So it can be used with other applications such as Microsoft PowerPoint, Google Drawing and many other web apps. (Students can even sign their learning agreement on the StarBoard - they have to do a very big signature though, so not recommended).
The best way to start using the StarBoard interactive whiteboards is to play with one in a classroom. The software is installed on all office and classroom PCs at the main building (on office PCs you will need to login to the PC locally - not use Remote Desktop), which is useful for preparing materials and getting to know the software. However, the best practice is to use a StarBoard in a classroom. Contact digital.learning@citylit.ac.uk if you would like to arrange a training session.
You can download StarBoard software to install on your own device from the StarBoard Solutions website: http://www.starboard-solution.com/downloads/
