Psychology is the study of the mind & behavior


Course Description:

During this course, students will begin a basic exploration of the field of psychology. Psychology is the study of the mind & behavior. We will look at a various psychological theories and apply them through activities and movies. This course is an excellent choice for those considering a possible career path in psychology or a related field.

Introduction to Psychology: Basic Goals of the Course

-Psychology can be useful in addressing both individual and global issues

-Look at how society’s major problems relate to human attitudes, values and behaviors

-Gain a basic understanding of the complexities and diversity of human thought and behavior

-Raise awareness that psychology, like all sciences, is constantly evolving

-Look at the variety of careers available to those who study psychology

-Gain the ability to relate psychological knowledge to everyday life

A multicultural and global perspective recognizes how diversity is important to understanding psychology

Student Evaluation:

Projects = 35%

Participation/Classwork = 35%

Open Notebook Assessments = 30%

Attendance, etc.

*As per school policy for a ½ year course: 10 absences from class and you absent out!

Absent: If you are ever absent from class, please see me to find out what you missed

Be on time: If you are late, come into class quietly. Don’t interrupt/talk with your friends to find out what you missed. At an opportune time, we will catch you up

-No cell phones in class unless permission granted by instructor (see sign)

-Binder with Looseleaf (Your binders remain in the classroom!)

-Folder

-Pen/Pencil

Fire Drill Protocol

-Exit the classroom and make a right, go down the staircase, exit the school, proceed down outdoor staircase and meet on the front sidewalk

-Attendance will be taken

Lockdown Protocol

-Protocol reviewed with Instructor

Lockout Protocol

-Threat is outside school

-Activities will continue per usual, but INDOORS only

-If classes are outside, we will move inside immediately
