*Students will earn 0 points total for class sessions where unsafe or inappropriate footwear is worn, unless that session is a lecture class or a written assessment is being given.*
Consistent participation is essential for Physical Education to be effective, and this belief is reflected in our grading policy.
Sneakers must be worn. Students that wish to change into fitness/athletic attire may do so. Athletic department issued uniforms should never be worn during class. Classes may be held outdoors in the fall and spring, so be prepared daily with a light jacket, sweatshirt and/or sweatpants. Again, sneakers must be worn. Work boots, sandals, flip-flops, platform sneakers, backless sneakers, sneakers with high heels, or any other footwear deemed unsafe or inappropriate by the instructor are not permitted.

Locker Room Protocol
We have a girls locker room, a boys locker room, and gender-neutral locations. The gender-neutral bathrooms are located on the 1st floor across the hallway from Ms. Moore's Art classroom.
The locker rooms will be open prior to the start of each P.E. class for students to change into their fitness/athletic attire and sneakers. Once students are done changing, and attendance has been entered into eSchool, we will then lock the locker rooms. With five minutes before the bell sounding the conclusion of class, instructors will unlock the locker rooms for students to change back into their school attire.
During class, students will utilize a designated locker space. This area in the locker room is not for storage of athletic team uniforms, equipment, or books. Lockers in this designated area are only used during a students assigned physical education class. This process is similar to being a member of a fitness/health club. No possessions should be left behind.
Students are strongly encouraged to leave valuables and personal items of any kind either at home or in another designated secure location.
Fire Drill Protocol
During all fire drills, classes will exit the rear of the building and turn left following the track and head towards the outfield fence area and scoreboard. Each class will designate an area to meet and at that time attendance will be taken by the instructor. If class is already being held outdoors, the procedure remains the same.
Lockdown Protocol
Protocol reviewed with Instructor
Secure Lockout Protocol
No outdoor activities. We will follow lockout procedures as per school policy.
Medical Excuses
Students that are medically excused, or physically unable to participate in class with supporting documentation, will complete alternative assessments that are specifically aligned with the New York State Physical Education Standards.
Unexcused absences/"Cuts"
Students will earn a zero for the day
Excused Absences
Students with multiple excused absences must meet individually with their instructor and the Director of Wellness, Health, Physical Education, and Athletics to determine an appropriate alternative assessment.
