This course provides a foundation for the study of art at the high school level by introducing students to a variety of concepts, processes, and two-dimensional media. Students will view and discuss examples of art, and write critically about their own works and works they observe using art vocabulary. This course is designed to meet the needs, interests, and learning styles of all students-from beginner to the advanced learner who has extensive experience. The next recommended level is Studio Art.
Mediums explored throughout the year:
Q1: drawing and other dry mediums, elements&principle focus, mixed media
Q2: painting which includes acrylic and watercolor, mixed media
Projects: 40% of the total grade, projects are counted late by deducting 5 points PER day
Sketchbook: 30% of total grade, any assignment or brainstorming for projects, assignments should be completed at home or during alloted classroom time (this is NOT given every week), 2 points deducted per day past due date, a ZERO grade will be assigned after one week past deadline
Studio Habits: 30% of total grade, includes class readiness and use of materials
Final: 20% will include a project
