Last month in November, we learned how to design and laser cut a box made out of cardboard. We first went on a program called Inkscape and followed a YouTube video's instructions on how to design it. (Click on "YouTube video's" to go to video). On my first attempt, I showed my teacher, Mrs. Morrow, my blueprint, but she said the measurements were wrong. Because of this, I had to go back on Inkscape and make changes to the original design. The lines ended up being too thick when I attempted a second time, so again, I went back on Inkscape and made changes. By the third time, when I had thought that there was no possible way something could be off, I showed her the layout. It turned out that my lines showing the laser cutter where to cut had been dashes, not actual lines. I edited the line pattern and was absolutely certain that nothing could be inaccurate, but of course, I had made the lines too thick- and only by .001 inches. For the fifth time, I went back to Inkscape, followed the video's instructions, and alternated the measurements of the border lines. I presented the layout to my teacher and it was right! After getting the okay, I stayed after school hours and cut my box with Mrs. Morrow's supervision.
