Fast-tracking innovations

I have arranged a meeting for the Fintech community to meet with the Securities and Futures Commission to discuss the new regulations on virtual asset trading platforms. In 2019 November, SFC released a position paper setting out a new regulatory framework for virtual asset trading platforms.

Following up on the government open data efforts, I call on the government to improve on the transparency by issuing KPI and a procedure for the public to request datasets. In 2019, MTR published its real-time transport data and the public can access the real-time data of minibuses by the end of 2020.

The implementation of the tax deduction for R&D expenditure is a response to a years-long demand from the IT sector. I have arranged a seminar to help the sector to understand the new tax policy and discuss with government representatives from the Inland Revenue Department and the Innovation and Technology Commission.
