Dunn snags first career E8 Defensive Player of the Week Award

Field Hockey | 10/29/2018 1:54:00 PM

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- A strong two-way performance by No. 18 Washington & Jefferson field hockey's Reghan Dunn (Earleville, Md./Bohemia Manor) helped the sophomore secure her first career Empire 8 Defensive Player of the Week honor.

Dunn joins Rena Israel (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) as the two Presidents to garner E8 Defensive Player of the Week accolades this season. Israel has taken home the honor three times in 2018.

Dunn was a vital component of the Presidents' defense that allowed a combined seven shots in two games last week. W&J gave up seven shots against Juniata on Wednesday, before holding Elmira to zero attempts in the 2018 regular-season finale on Saturday. The 7-0 W&J win on Saturday is the team's 12th shutout in 16 games, and it lowered the Presidents' league-leading goals-against average to 0.31.

On the other side of the field, Dunn finished tied for second on the team with four points on one goal and two assists. Against Juniata, the Earleville, Md., native assisted Rachel Fromm (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) on W&J's lone goal of the match. She followed that game up with one goal and one assist against Elmira. Following this week's play, Dunn is tied for the team lead in assists with four.

By defeating the Soaring Eagles on Saturday, the Presidents end the 2018 regular season with a 15-1 overall record and a perfect 8-0 mark in the Empire 8.

As the top seed in the E8, the Presidents will host the Empire 8 Tournament at Cameron Stadium on Friday-Saturday, Nov. 2-3. W&J will begin play with a noon match against fourth-seeded Hartwick (12-5, 5-3) on Friday.
