Safe: Keep safe by being careful not to share personal information online. In addition to your phone number, name and email, photos can often have many clues about you.
Meet: Meeting someone you have only been in touch with online can be extremely dangerous. Only do so with your parents permission and presence and even then only in a public place.
Accepting: Accepting emails, IM messages, or opening files, pictures or texts from people you don't know or trust can lead to problems. - they may contain viruses or nasty messages!
Reliable: Information you find on the internet may not be true, or someone online may be lying about who they are. Make sure you critically review information before you believe it.
Tell: If you come across something online that makes you feel uncomfortable or worried, or if you or someone you know is being bullied online, tell a parent or trusted adult.
OFFLINE ACCESS:
Unlike a standard laptop, Chromebooks are dependent on WiFi access for full functionality. While an "offline" mode allows some functionality, having wireless internet available is much preferred.
One option would be to choose the "offline" option for specific files. This takes some planning, as it must be done in advance, while WiFi access is available. Files can be worked on while no WiFi access is available, and will sync once back on the internet. This option also works when students want to work on the bus, on a road trip, or other times when WiFi access is not an option. For information on how to use the "offline" mode, view the Tech Tip Video.
AFFORDABLE INTERNET:
Other options are available for families that qualify for free or reduced lunches:
Comcast has a monthly plan for $9.95. Please click here for more information.
AT & T has a similar monthly plan for $10. Click here for further information.
One popular approved video extension is Screencastif--Create screencasts of your chromebook screen or video of yourself, embed your live image in a screencast.
In addition to having unlimited free storage, other features include not seeing advertisements on our Google Apps services (Drive, Calendar, Blogger, Mail, Sites).
In addition to these logins allowing access to the Google online Classroom these logins are also email accounts. All student accounts are restricted in both sending and receiving mail only from staff and students in our district. This functionality has allowed for better communication on group projects, as well as for teachers to easily email grades and feedback on work. These emails are monitored, archived and accessible by our tech department as needed
Around the end of June, senior accounts will be deleted and all files lost. Be sure to save work from your network and Google Drive accounts to a personal account.
Things to think about before exporting from Google Drive
Be mindful of timing. It is suggested you do the following steps after completing all work.
Do not move or rename your "Classroom" folder as this can break paths that allow your teachers to see your work.
If you are doing these steps on your Chromebook you will need a thumb drive or memory card to transfer your data to another computer.
