Weekly Environmental Homework and Reminders

Week of December 10th-14th

  • Monday-Tuesday- during the first two days of the week, I will meeting with each group to go over their year long project ideas and look at their revisions on their lab reports. I will be making suggestions and correcting mistakes. Students will have the opportunity to continue to edit the report before a grade is given.
  • Monday- I will be handing out the first semester exam review. Students will have class time to work on this on Monday and Tuesday. Students will also be finishing their population dice labs from last week.
  • Wednesday-Thursday- we will be reviewing as a class for the semester exam. We will also be looking at an article about issues associated with population control, which was debated in class last week.

Week of November 27th-30th

  • Tuesday- students will be completing a paper recycling lab in class and will be required to make their own recycled piece of paper.
  • Tuesday-Friday- students will have time in class each day to work on their lab report edits, which are due on Friday, the 30th
  • Students will also have time to work on their year long project designs. The final design proposals are due on Monday, December 10th.
  • Wednesday-Thursday- students will begin researching population control methods around the world in preparation for a population control debate next week


Week of November 5th-9th

  • Monday- we will be going over, in class, the pollutants measured in the AQI numbers. Students will be researching different pollutant levels from around the world
  • Tuesday- students will have the period to work on their waste projects
  • Wednesday-Thursday- we will be doing presentations over their chosen waste presentations. Students will be getting notes that go along with each presentation
  • Friday- waste quiz 1


Week of October 15th-18th

  • Monday-students will be handing in their lab reports
  • Monday-Tuesday- students will be presenting their endangered species projects
  • Tuesday- we will be discussing invasive species and the problems they can cause- students will be assigned a "Wanted" poster over a chose invasive species
  • Wednesday- 1st quarter binders due
  • Thursday- Bottle projects due


Week of October 8th-12th

  • Monday-we will be finishing the movie "Racing Extinction"
  • Tuesday-Friday- students will get time in class to work on one of the following projects:
    • Project lab report- due Monday October 15th
    • Bottle Challenge- due Thursday, October 18th
    • Endangered Species Project- due Friday, October 12th

Week of October 1st-5th

  • Monday-Tuesday- students will have both days top work on their year long project lab reports. Each group will have a chance to meet with the teachers to discuss their progress
  • Wednesday- students will be doing a small research sheet in class about invasive and endangered species
  • Wednesday-Friday- students will be watching the movie "Racing Extinction" about the damage that humans are doing to species on the earth
  • Friday- all plastic bottles are due for the plastic bottle challenge


Week of September 24th-28th

  • On Monday, students had an opportunity to work on their year long projects, and plastic bottle projects
  • Tuesday-Wednesday- we will be going over the rest of the class powerpoint as well as reading through my teacher notes in class over the natural resources unit
  • Students will be researching an environmental disaster that occurred due to a chosen extraction process
  • Thursday will be a test review day
  • Friday- natural resources test


Week of September 18th-21st

  • This week will be dedicated to getting everyone caught up after a very hectic week last week.
  • On Tuesday, students will have time in class to finish their lab questions on the oil spill clean up lab as well as the resources worksheet
  • Students will also have time in class to work on their year long project lab report. We will be going over how to organize this report, as well as where to store it
  • Students will be receiving a new project on Tuesday that will be a challenge on the reuse of plastic bottles. We will be going over this project as a class, and the idea proposals will be due on Friday
  • Students will have time in class each day to work on all of the assignments listed above.
  • We will also continue to go over the resources PPT that was created by the class last week. The test has been pushed back to September 28th


Week of September 10th-14th

  • Monday-Wednesday, we will spend a portion of each period going over the class powerpoint that the students created last week over natural resources
  • Students will receive a natural resources worksheet on Monday that will act as a good review of the information on the powerpoint. They will have in class time to work on it
  • On Wednesday, we will begin working on an oil spill clean up lab- students will be required to brainstorm ideas on how to clean up a simulated oil spill. This will take both Wednesday and Thursday
  • On Friday- students will be working on their year long project lab reports as well as their first current event assignment of the year


Week of September 4th-7th

  • On Tuesday, students completed a "Cookie Mining" lab to understand the importance of mining for resources and the damage it does to the earth
  • On Wednesday and Thursday, students will be working on a class power point about natural resources- students will be given topics to add to the class slide show
  • Friday will be a year long project day. Students will be given a "Project Proposal" sheet that allows them to explain their year long project goals and plans


Week of August 27th-31st

  • Students will be giving their "Real Life Lorax" presentations in class throughout the first few days of the week
  • On Monday and Tuesday, we will finish going over the notes as well as researching ways that humans are both sustainable and unsustainable with the earth
  • On Thursday, we will review for our test
  • Friday- Into to ES Test


Week of August 20th-24th

  • We will begin over over the notes of the Intro to ES unit on Monday. We will be going through those notes a little at a time over the next week and half
  • Students will have time in class each day to work on their "Real Life Lorax" assignment, which will be due on Monday, August 27th
  • We will have our first project day on Friday at which time their year long project ideas are due


Week of August 15th-17th

  • Students were given a rules sheet and student info sheet on Wednesday. These need to be filled out and returned by Wednesday, August 22nd
  • On Thursday, we will begin reading "The Lorax" as a class. Students will be filling out a worksheet that goes along with this book
  • On Friday, students will begin researching real world examples of "The Lorax"
