General Music Distance e-learning Lesson 8

Here's your second lesson on musical instrument families. Your work is due June 4th. This lesson will focus on the brass family.

The trumpet is the highest pitched member of the brass family and is part of the FWS Band. Check out this video about the trumpet.

The french horn has a beautiful mellow tone, but unfortunately is not part of the FWS Band. Students interested in french horn are encouraged to start on trumpet and add or switch to french horn in later years. Enjoy this video about the french horn.

The trombone represents one part of the low brass section in the FWS Bands. Watch this video about the trombone.

The euphonium is very closely related to the baritone horn, which is the other part of the low brass section in the FWS Bands. (We use the baritone horn instead of the euphonium as they are slightly smaller and thus easier for our young students to manage.) Check out this video about the euphonium.

The tuba is the lowest pitch member of the brass family and a bit too big for FWS students. Students who are interested in playing tuba someday are encouraged to start with baritone horn. Here's a great video about the tuba.

2. What are the names of the five instruments you learned about in this lesson?

3. Which of these instruments is the highest pitched?

4. Which of these instruments is the lowest pitched?
