Training Room Procedures

Basic Training Rules:

  1. All athletes must follow school policies as far as discipline and behavior. Even after the bell has rang for the last class or a weekend day, all rules must be adhered to as per Board of Education Policies.
  2. All student-athletes must be properly dressed as per school policy. Athletes sent away because of dress may return once appropriately covered for a school setting.
  3. All student-athletes must be respectful to my student trainer assistants, coaches in the room, other student-athletes, officials that happened to be in the room, parents, and myself. Any student whom is disrespectful and not self-adjusting after prolonged warnings may be requested to leave the room despite of their circumstance, within reason.
  4. All student-athletes and coaches must follow recommendations applied to the student-athlete's condition, from myself, doctor's note or parent's request. Physical therapy notes or other allied professions will be met with consideration.
  5. Athlete's must be evaluated before any treatment method can be determined. Ice, taping, padding and wound care are all forms of treatment. Once an evaluation is completed, determination the best plan of action will be the next step of the process.
  6. If a referral is warranted, the parent will be notified and the student-athlete will be shut-down to the minimalist of capacity until a doctor's note is received and then the next step of the process will be determined by the information provided by the treating physician.
  7. A note will be given to the student-athlete for each day he/she is treated in the training room. If the status of the athlete does not change, then a note might not be given, unless requested by the coach.
  8. All athlete's must sign-in for treatments and evaluations. In order to evaluated, the athlete must complete the beginning of the evaluation form used to document all injuries seen by the athletic trainer.
  9. If an student-athletes is seen by a medical doctor (M.D. or D.O.) for an injury or condition which relates to sport or overall health must bring a medical note, establishing their ability to return back to athletics. If a student-athlete sees a physician, it will be assumed that the student-athlete will not be able to practice, condition or play with the school team, until a note from the attending physician is attained, and the student-athlete's level of ability is determined. Each note is a legal document and must explain the athlete's level of ability to return.
  10. The order of things: athletes will treated each day by the following considerations-

a. away athletes are usually a priority to treated 1st so they can make their buses. Evaluations may not occur since the evaluation process can be lengthy and to make a hasty decision is short period of time may not be warranted. A determination of level of play may have to determined at the next possible window of time where a proper evaluation can take place (during my prep period or next practice)

b. home practicing athletes are next. Games usually start later then practices, so practicing athletes will be the next priority.

c. home game athletes are next. Unless there is a modified home game (state), home game athletes will the 3rd treated athletes.

d. evaluations. Athletes that need evaluations will usually be the last athletes treated. The evaluation process can take 10 to 30 minutes per athlete, and to evaluate student-athletes before the other three above wouldn't make sense for them to sit around and wait to be treated after such a long wait period. Student-athletes waiting to be evaluated will need to be patient and complete the assessment form on the Chrome book provided.

e. the other of things may be modified as per situation. Athletes try to get the training room ASAP, comply to instructions, and should hard to get out of the training room as fast as possible. No one has every won from the training room.

11. Athlete's should remove equipment (football gear) and shoes before they enter the room. The school is not responsible for items brought into the room, but are left carelessly around. Phones, money, and headphones are commonly stolen in a school setting when not taken care of properly.
