Athletic Training

As part of my position at B.T.H.S. I am a PE/Health Teacher and also the full time Athletic Trainer for all N.J.S.I.A.A. sports.

What is Athletic Training?

Answer: Athletic Training is a para-medical profession which is very similar to nursing, physical therapy and E.M.T.'s all rolled into one. While an athletic trainer has to have a very good understanding of anatomy and how the body works, as well as emergency procedures into a life threatening conditions arise. We specialize in sports medicine and should be able to evaluate and rehabilitate most sports injuries. We are very proficient in taping, bracing, and padding of injured body parts as well as the evaluation of head and neck injuries. Athletic trainers refer to other allied health professionals when needed and will not hesitate to work with other professionals in order to provide the best service to our athletes. To become an athletic trainer you must go to a accredited college or university that offers this major, which is currently a Master's degree, pass a national exam from the N.A.T.A./B.O.C. and be registered or licensed in the state you wish to work in. Athletic Training is a very rewarding professional if you like working with athletes & sports and don't mind the irregular hours and sometimes long work weeks.
