AAPI Voices: The Dragonfly Plays

The Asian American Playwright Collective (AAPC) and the Burlington Players proudly announce this exciting collaboration between our two groups. 

Performances are February 23, 2024 - March 9, 2024.

The Dragonfly Plays is a compelling collection featuring three short plays by local playwrights, each delving into themes of identity, cultural significance, and the illusions we create for ourselves and others. 

• Chagrin Valley by Hortense Gerardo, directed by Michelle Aguillon, and features Steve Bermundo, Karla Goo Lang and Naomi Ibasitas

• Don't Fence Me In by Rosanna Yamagiwa Alfaro, directed by Michelle Aguillon, features Violet Villanueva, Mordecai SJ Choi, and Chantha Luk

• Secret Asian Man by Dev Luthra, directed by Vincent Siders, and features Dev Luthra

From the blurred reality of a bus-stop or asylum in Chagrin Valley, to a Japanese internment camp in Don’t Fence Me In, to a global trot spanning continents in Secret Asian Man, The Dragonfly Plays span a variety of settings.  

Producer Michelle Aguillon states, “The dragonfly is a powerful symbol in many Asian cultures, which ties together these pieces’ themes about resilience, hope, and the power of different views, stories and perspectives.”

Kristin Hughes, President of the Burlington Players, expressed her excitement, stating, "We are thrilled to present this collaboration with the AAPC. We look forward to introducing these plays to our audience and are excited to bring new audiences to the Park Playhouse."

This co-production serves as a celebration of cultural diversity and a profound exploration of the human experience. Burlington Players and the AAPC invite theater enthusiasts and the community at large to join them for an unforgettable theatrical journey.
