COVID19 Guidance effective 07/01/22

As of July 1, 2022, the Burlington Players has updated its masking and immunization policy based on guidance last published by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health on June 10, 2022.

Because of the nature and close proximity of individuals engaging in theatrical endeavors, those participating in a show, whether an actor, crew, or staff, if eligible, are required to be up to date on COVID vaccinations including any booster doses as they become available.

The wearing of masks indoors is not required. However, we encourage the wearing of masks indoors, ESPECIALLY for those who have a weakened immune system or are at increased risk for severe illness because of your age or underlying condition, or if a household member is.  We will continue to monitor the situation and if warranted, require the use of masks during rehearsals.

Individuals who test positive for COVID, or are considered close contacts to someone who has tested positive, must follow the Massachusetts Department of Public Health Isolation and Quarantine Guidance which includes wearing a mask in public for 5 more days after leaving isolation or quarantine on day 5, regardless of vaccination status.

The Audition

Auditions will consist of readings from the script by appointment; please sign up for a slot here.  Plan to arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled time to get checked in.  Walk-ins with no appointment are welcome, and will be fit in as space/time permits.

Sides will be made available prior to the audition and a link will be provided.  Please bring a headshot and resume if you have them.  Don't forget your conflicts, and please bring proof of vaccination.

The Production

Rehearsals will begin immediately after Labor Day, and will run 3-4 nights per week, usually Sundays (4:30 – 6:30 pm), Mondays, and Wednesdays with the occasional Thursday. Please be honest about your conflicts; the more knowledge we have in advance, the better we can plan to deal with curves life may throw.

The Story
A sequel to Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice set two years after the novel ends, MISS BENNET continues the story, only this time with bookish middle-sister Mary as its unlikely heroine. Mary is growing tired of her role as dutiful middle sister in the face of her siblings’ romantic escapades. When the family gathers for Christmas at Pemberley, an unexpected guest sparks Mary’s hopes for independence, an intellectual match, and possibly even love.

The Characters

All ages are ranges and relative. The authors – and the Burlington Players – are looking for diverse performers who have good comic timing and enjoy Jane Austen – who is, indeed, for everyone. If you have a British accent, please use it in your audition.

MARY BENNET
Female identifying, 20s. Finally coming in to her own now that three of her four sisters have left home to marry. Intelligent, curious, lively, but a bit too honest for polite society, and impatient to start living life on her own terms.

ARTHUR deBOURGH
Male identifying, 20s – 30s. Studious, quiet loner who has never spent time around women or boisterous families. Uncomfortable with his new position as head of a large estate and a bit out of his depth.

ELIZABETH DARCY
Female identifying, mid 20s. Happily married to Mr. Darcy; confident, charming and witty. Loves her life with Darcy, and still best friends with her sister Jane. Looking to ensure that her sisters are equally happy. Somehow.

FITZWILLIAM DARCY
Male identifying, 30s. Loving, generous, and intelligent; warmer and more in touch with/able to express emotions than when he was a bachelor, but still a bit standoffish. Loves Elizabeth very much.

JANE BINGLEY
Female identifying, mid 20s. Happily married to Mr. Bingley, and seven months pregnant with her first child. Sweet, optimistic, and always sees the best in everyone.

CHARLES BINGLEY
Male identifying, late 20s-30s. Happily married to Jane, happy to be with his good friend Darcy and his delightful sister-in-law for the holidays, and happy to be expecting his first child. May be a golden retriever in human form, but still able to tease his friends.

LYDIA WICKHAM
Female identifying, late teens to early 20s. Flirtatious, youthful, self-centered. Hiding some secret hurts, but determined to put a brave face on her choices in the face of her older sisters’ happy marriages. Equally determined to have some fun.

ANNE deBOURGH
Female identifying, 20s. Only daughter of the late, unlamented Lady Catherine deBourgh. Lived in her mother’s shadow, and learned many an unfortunate lesson thereby.
