German honor society

Delta Epsilon Phi is a nationally recognized honor society, on par with the National Honor Society. The Belleville East chapter, Delta Sigma, is a community service- oriented society, active in the Belleville area by assisting community organizations such as the Gustave Koerner House Restoration Project, the Belleville Historical Society and the St. Clair County Historical Society and attending German-related events in the Belleville and St. Louis area.

Students who wish to become members must meet the following criteria:

• They must be in their fourth semester of German.

• They must have a minimum overall GPA of"3.0".

• They must must have maintained a “3.6” average in German (of all semesters of their German classes).

• They must be an active Member of the German Club for a minimum of one year prior to the selection process.

• They must apply, using the application form which will be available by early February. This application includes:

-...a GPA verification sheet

-...an AP clearance sheet (ascertaining that the candidate has not committed any serious disciplinary infractions)

-...three teacher recommendations

-...a sheet verifying depth in German Club

-...a personal information sheet, used to introduce you to the students and parents at our annual induction ceremony held in late April.

As a member of the German Honor Society...

• Students must maintain a 3.6 or higher in German.

• Students help to organize German Club events.

• Students provide tutoring services to other German students.

• Students provide services to the school (e.g. Freshmen Orientation, etc.).

• Students participate in at least two service oriented projects throughout the year.

• Students attend all the German Club meetings as well as the GNHS meetings.

• Students must continue to be enrolled in German.
