Homework

Homework is an important part of your child's education. Homework will be sent home in several different ways throughout the year. Generally, your child will receive a weekly homework packet. This packet will contain several worksheets or activities that are intended to reinforce or practice skills that have been taught in class. The homework is generally quick and requires a minimal amount of time, however your child may need assistance in reading directions and perhaps completing the activities on the worksheets. The weekly homework will generally be sent home on Monday or Tuesday and it is due back to class by Friday of that week. If you and your child need more time to complete it, the homework may be returned on Monday of the following week. If your child finishes the homework before Friday, she/he may return it at anytime during the week.

In addition to the Weekly Homework, your child may receive a separate daily math worksheet. This homework is expected to be completed the night it comes home and returned the next day. It is important that your child completes the daily math homework the evening it is sent home since it is designed to reinforce and practice the skill taught in class that day. Again, it is short and does not require a lot of time to complete.

Your child will begin learning sight words in the fall. Again, in order to reinforce skills taught in class, please practice the words at home with your child. I will send home a list of activities to help you practice in a variety of fun and engaging ways.

Later in the year, your child will begin bringing home a "Red Reading Folder" once or twice a week. This is a time for your child to show you how much they have learned about reading books! Please read the book with your child and have them return it to school the next day. Your child will also be given a reading log to keep in their folder.
