Featuring CLASSMATE Nina R. Jacobson ’87, P’23, Soledad O’Brien P’24, and Angela Robinson ’92, who will lead a behind-the-scenes discussion on their careers, diversifying the entertainment industry, and the importance of female mentorship.
Moderated by Resa E. Lewiss ’92.
Nina R. Jacobson '87, P'23 is a senior film executive and producer. As an executive, she shepherded “The Sixth Sense,” “Remember the Titans,” “The Royal Tenenbaums,” “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe,” and “Pirates of the Caribbean.” Jacobson’s feature credits include “The Hunger Games” franchise, “Crazy Rich Asians,” and the “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” series. She has also produced television shows ranging from the groundbreaking “Pose” to “The People V OJ Simpson: American Crime Story” and “The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story,” which received two Emmys and two Golden Globes.
Soledad O'Brien P'24 is an award-winning documentarian, journalist, speaker, author, and philanthropist, who founded Soledad O’Brien Productions, a multi-platform media production company dedicated to telling empowering and authentic stories on a range of social issues. She anchors and produces the Hearst TV political magazine program "Matter of Fact with Soledad O'Brien" and is a correspondent for HBO Real Sports. She is also host of the Quake Media podcast “Very Opinionated with Soledad O’Brien.” With over 1.3 million Twitter followers, she is a thought leader who has a national impact through her speeches, numerous documentaries, and her presence on the op-ed pages of platforms like The New York Times and Huffington Post. She has anchored shows on CNN, MSNBC, and NBC, and reported for Fox, A&E, Oxygen, Nat Geo, the PBS NewsHour, WebMD, and Al Jazeera America, among others.
Angela Robinson '92 is an American filmmaker who most recently executive produced “Passing,” written and directed by Rebecca Hall and starring Tessa Thompson and Ruth Negga. She wrote and directed the film “Professor Marston & The Wonder Women.” In television, she is working with J.J. Abrams and Bad Robot to adapt Madame Xanadu, the D.C. character from the Justice League Dark series. She also served as a consulting producer on ABC’s hit series “How to Get Away with Murder” and previously both wrote and directed as an executive producer on boundary-pushing series for HBO including “Hung” and “True Blood,” as well as on Showtime’s groundbreaking “The L Word.” Previously, she directed “Herbie Fully Loaded,” and her feature debut “D.E.B.S.” first premiered as a short film at Sundance Film Festival.

Join the Brown Arts Institute for an artist talk by Kirsten Johnson ’87 as she explores and shares her experiences as a filmmaker over the last 30 years.
Johnson is currently serving as a Brown Arts Institute Visiting Assistant Professor of the Practice. Her film DICK JOHNSON IS DEAD premiered at Sundance 2020 and won the Jury Prize for Innovation in Nonfiction Storytelling. Indiewire reported that it was the top ranked documentary among 187 accredited film critics. Her previous film, CAMERAPERSON, premiered at Sundance 2016, was shortlisted for an Academy Award, won the National Board of Review “Freedom of Expression” prize, and won three 2017 Cinema Eye Honors. Named one ‘Top Ten Films of 2016’ by The New York Times and The Washington Post, it was the Grand Jury Winner of 9 international festivals, recently been named to numerous top films of the decade lists and is distributed by The Criterion Collection.

The Office of the Provost invites you to attend the book launch of “See, Solve, Scale: How Anyone Can Turn an Unsolved Problem into a Breakthrough Success” by Danny Warshay '87, executive director of the Nelson Center for Entrepreneurship, on March 23, from 4-5 p.m. ET. Provost Richard M. Locke and Danny Warshay will discuss the book with commentary from Professor Emeritus Barrett Hazeltine and Brown alumni entrepreneurs. A Q&A session will follow the discussion. The winning team will win not only bragging rights but the top point earners win some great prizes! Once the trivia portion is over, participants will enjoy catching up in breakout rooms by Reunion year!
