Brown Class of 1962 Fiftieth Reunion Golf Outing Recap
The Class of 1962 organized a golf outing at Rhode Island Country Club on Friday morning, May 25th. A total of twenty-eight (28) Brown community members participated, including twenty (20) from B’62 (16 alums and 4 spouses). Seven former Brown Golf team alums played. There were 50 years of alumni represented, from the Class of 1952 to the Class of 2002.
To preserve anonymity (as well as self respect), the actual scores have been classified Top Secret. Potential Low Gross winner Judge Howard Wiener ’52 was disqualified as only ’62 golfers were eligible, and besides, Judge Wiener only played 9 holes. The longest drive honor went to Steve Bettencourt ’67, and closest to the hole was won by Peter Gilson ’62.
The real Low Gross honor went to Mike Shapiro ’62, and a three-way tie for runner-up was won by John South ’62 in a scorecard playoff with Phil Davis ’62 and Peter Gilson ‘62.
Former golf team players were Phil Davis ’62, John South ’62, Tom Hoagland ’63, Steve Bettencourt ’67, John Mahoney ’68, Harry Rosenberg ’82, and Rebekah Alfond ’02.
