COURSE DESCRIPTION
In Visual Art & Design, students will be exposed to a wide variety of materials, tools, and techniques and the ways in which they can be utilized in Self Expression and Communication. In addition to gaining confidence and proficiency working with a variety of media, students will learn about the history/global context and many interpretations of art, as well as, real-world applications and cross-disciplinary connections. Through exposure to the work of other artists, students will experience various challenges and develop attitudes that will make art a valuable part of their lives.

GRADING
Brooklyn Prospect students receive one grade per course and that grade is communicated via a report card at the end of each semester. Elements that make up the overall grade can be divided into two categories: Achievement and Effort. In Arts & Athletics course, Effort accounts for 70% of the grade, and achievement for 30%.

Homework & Art Journal (sketchbook)
Students must come to class with their art journal, folder, and a pencil each day. They must be on time, work hard, and stay focused. They will lose points on their Participation & Professionalism grade if they do not meet these requirements.
Homework, when assigned, will be assigned at the beginning of the week and due the first lesson of the following week. Students are generally asked to complete a representational or preparatory drawing in their art journals (provided by the MS Office for a $5 fee). In learning to be accomplished draftsperson, practice is essential and will prepare students for art in high school. All homework assignments are scored on a 5-point scale. Homework can be turned in late within 2 class meetings of the day it was due for partial credit (4/5).
