Daily Operations Protocol Reminder

For ASP Arrival, all students attending afterschool are required to transition directly to the commons following school dismissal (M/T/Th/F 3:45, W 2:00). All students are provided with NYC School Foods snacks daily, with a 15-20 minute window to arrive, eat snacks, and use their devices to check in with families. Following snack time, students transition to enrichment activities, and devices are away or placed in a bin and redistributed at dismissal time. Please note if a student breaches this agreement, the following occurs:

ASP Dismissal starts at 6 PM at the Front Entrance on 80 Willoughby Street. A student may not leave earlier than regular dismissal time unless we've receive communication from a guardian.

Early Dismissal Policy
If you're picking up your child early or they need to self-dismiss early for an emergency, please email wtmsafterschool@brooklynprospect.org or call us: 347-416-6878 Ext: 5304. Early dismissal/pick-up will stop at 5:40 PM, and families will have to wait until 6pm.  If your child is signed up for ASP, please try to have them stay for the duration of their club/activity. We understand there are emergency early pick-ups (before 5:40), but please refrain from picking up your child the first hour of the program unless an emergency occurs. Students will not be able to receive the full lesson or learn the content if they are leaving early every day. We are also not a late pickup/child care option, we want our students to stay the full duration of the program! Thank you for understanding.

General Program Protocols

Our school offers a grant-awarded after-school program, open to all students, FREE of charge, thanks to the DYCD! The 2023-24 school year program duration is from September 18, 2023 through June 14, 2024.

Cellphone + Non-Instructional Technology: Cellphones are not permitted to be out during ASP Activity time for any student. We will follow this year's school policy and collect cellphones after snack time. Students are only allowed to use their personal devices during Snack Time (15 min), and will place them in the lockboxes as transition to their activities for the day. If we see a phone out that was not turned in, the phone is collected until the end of their after-school day. Families are HIGHLY encouraged to call our office phone and email us during program hours if they need to reach their child.

Community Practice Agreement: We want to ensure students are building respectful and supportive relationships within an inclusive and engaged community. This is foundational to a positive learning environment. If a student does not uphold DASA or community agreement, they are subject to the behavioral consequences outlined in their agreement. Please continue to have these conversations with your student in support of their daily engagement in the after-school program.

Study Hall Period: Wednesdays 2:30-3:30 is homework hour, providing students with time to complete school-related independent work before starting ASP activities on these days. Our student-athletes are required to attend study hall period if their practice or game falls on a Wednesday, or if they need to improve grades for good standing.

Daylight Savings Acknowledgement: As we get through the winter months together, daylight savings means the sun sets earlier and during after-school hours. We are here with you and will continue to run lots of fun and thoughtful programming for students daily till 6 pm! If you are worried about your child's safety when traveling home alone, please ensure you notify the ASP office via email about their early dismissal.

WTMS Student-Athlete Rules & Expectations

Student-athletes are positive role models within our school and the community. Our athletics program serves as an opportunity to improve sports skill sets, develop relationships and get in optimal physical shape. Students, in turn, experience additional educational leadership benefits that come from participation in sports. Integrity, fairness, and respect are inherent principles of good sportsmanship.

As an athlete at Brooklyn Prospect, sportsmanship goals should include, but are not limited to:

• Following the rules set by the coaches and the school.

• Participating enthusiastically.

• Exhibiting pride in their team and school.

• Accepting responsibility as a role model for others.

• Supporting other sports and middle school teams.

• Playing with dignity and grace, regardless of outcome.

A student-athlete is always representing their school community. Family and friends, opposing fans, the local community, and the media view student actions. Displaying good sportsmanship will show the most positive things about the student and our school.

Student-athletes are students first.  There are detailed behavioral and academic expectations students must meet during the school year for participation eligibility.  The final decisions are left up to the discretion of the Principal and After School Program Manager.

Academic Prerequisites for Athletic Performance:

In order to  play on a team, students must be on track for promotion and passing all of the following classes with a minimum grade 70% or higher: Math, Science, ELA, and Humanities. The final decisions are left up to the discretion of the Principal and After School Program Manager.

Behavioral Prerequisites for Athletic Performance:

Students are to remain in good behavioral standing to participate in team athletics.  Students may be suspended or removed from practice, games or teams due to behavior resulting in class reset or school suspensions or chronic lateness or absences (chronic lateness or absenteeism is defined as being absent or late more than 10% of the time). The final decisions are left up to the discretion of the Principal and After School Program Manager.
