ELA and Math State Tests
The ELA state test is coming up on April 11th-12th, and the Math test will be on May 2nd-3rd. Our message to students around testing is to take it seriously while remembering that it does not define them. We know that no test could measure the excellence that our students demonstrate in so many dimensions! That said, please help set our students up for a good experience by making sure that they get a good night's sleep before the state test and eat a good breakfast. We want our students to feel proud of their work, to feel confident in knowing how to approach tests like these (which come up again in high school with the Regents and for college entry) and to come in ready to show all that they know!
Lottery and Waitlist Applications for the 2018-19 School Year are now available!
Sibling families are given priority for entry into all Brooklyn Prospect schools. Families interested in applying sibling(s) of current Brooklyn Prospect students may access our application online at www.brooklynprospect.org/admissions.
If you know any families that are interested in joining Brooklyn Prospect Charter School, please advise them to apply on our website or attend an upcoming information session. Visit our website for information session details.
Progress Reports and Report Cards
Progress reports went home as part of conferences. If you did not receive your child’s progress report, please contact wtmscoordinator@brooklynprospect.org. These progress reports represent a “snapshot” of student performance mid-semester. Report cards were mailed out last month for the first semester (which closed January 26th) and will be mailed out a few days after the last day of school for second semester.
Overdue Books & Library Announcement
Three times a year (November 1st, March 1st & June 1st), Ms. Gallager bills students for their overdue books. As SOON as students return their overdue books, she will remove the charges on Teacherease. If students have lost or damaged a book, parents will have to pay for the cost of that book on Teacherease.
If students would like Ms. Gallager to renew one of their overdue books (which you can do during the school year but not over the summer), please email her and she will renew your book and remove the Teacherease charge for that book. You can email Ms. Gallager at lesliegallager@brooklynprospect.org.
Dance & Phys. Ed Locker Room Renovations
The first round of renovations to our student restrooms (C Level) and locker rooms are now underway. This means students will not change for PE and Dance Class. Students should bring a pair of sneakers to change into for class. Locker rooms will re-open in mid-March. If you have questions, please contact the Middle School Office.
Warm Weather & Dress Code Update
Ms Michael and Ms Johnson are pleased to announce that our uniform policy has been revised to allow some hoodie sweatshirts. This change in policy is a pilot for the remainder of the school year. The change came about through the efforts and participation of the full WTMS community.
Beginning NOW, students are allowed to wear hoodie sweatshirts that meet the following criteria:
Solid with no patterns or brand logos.
Only these BPCS school uniform colors:
Hoods must never worn up on the head in the building.
Headphones never hidden in hoods.
As a reminder, as the weather gets warmer, polos are the required shirt. Students may wear outerwear over, but cannot wear a solid color tee/top INSTEAD of the polo shirt. We will begin to issue violations.
You can review the full dress code by visiting the our FAQ page. If you have additional questions about the change, please reach out to Ms. Johnson at ejohnson@brooklynprospect.org or contact the WTMS Office.
