This year, we will begin with two units designed to encourage students to see themselves as scientists. In our first unit you will reflect on your science journey, learn the importance of asking questions, and even hear from guest scientists. We will then move on to using the engineering design cycle to conquer several challenges and learn about concepts like density, buoyancy, and simple machines. Our third unit revolves around space, forces, Newton's Laws, and motion. In winter, we will move on to our fourth unit on Energy. Here we will discuss the various types of energy transfers as well as renewable and nonrenewable sources of energy. In this unit we will also discuss several inequities that have arised by relying on nonrenewable sources of energy. This information and skills lead right into our last unit on Climate Change and Weather, where we will discuss the cause and effect relationships of climate change and investigate a storm of your choice. Here's to looking forward to a fun, productive, and challenging year!
Note: Most 6th grade teachers do not hold regular drop-in office hours. Families and students are encouraged to email teachers directly to schedule a time for additional support.
