Vocational Pathways

We have a Year 12 and Year 13 Vocational Pathways Subject. This continues on from Employment Skills, and is specifically linked to students who will be doing Gateway/Work Experience during the year. There are employment related units, and then when you are doing your Work Experience we will find specific units that link to that career.  Students need to be independent learners, focused, motivated and reliable. This subject supports your pathway into tertiary education and/or employment. You will also participate in various courses through the year around Health and Safety in the Workplace and work related skills.

What are the Vocational Pathways?? Check out this website for more information - basically it is a Government initiative to align NCEA Level 1,2 & 3 with the skills and knowledge that Industry/employers think are important into 6 different strands (coloured to make them easier to remember).  You can work within school to achieve these Standards alongside your normal school programme and also work towards Vocational Awards - specific to the Industry/pathway/career you are interested in.

At Bream Bay College your reports will provide you with a page that shows which Vocational Pathway/s you are showing strength in and also which ones you may want to work towards achieving a Vocational Award.  Your Whanau teacher/subject teacher and/or Dean can show you this to help guide you in your future subject choices.  You can complete a Gateway placement in order to achieve towards your 20 'sector' related standards needed to gain a Vocational Award.
