Definitions of Service-Learning and Advocacy

WHAT IS SERVICE-LEARNING?

Service-Learning is a way to connect your classroom to your community. Courses with a Service-Learning (SL) component offer students an opportunity to apply course concepts to a community service project and to critically reflect on this experience.

WHAT IS ADVOCACY?

Supporting an idea or cause through public and private communications, and collecting evidence to support one’s position.

Examples:

  • Speaking or writing to individuals, groups, or elected officials on behalf of a cause

  • Sharing a video about your cause on social media
