Graduation Requirements
The Board is committed to maintaining a rigorous core curriculum and student performance standards designed to promote student achievement. The goal is to prepare all graduates of the District to be contributing members of society. The Board believes that the following high school graduation requirements are an important component of its commitment to students.
Graduation Plans
Graduation Requirements (Grades 9 - 12)
The following are the minimum required credits for graduation for the class of 2013 and beyond. These requirements are outlined in Board Policy #2640.
1 1 credit any grade, 9-12 (Debate also satisfies the Speech requirement)
2. Successful completion of Algebra 1 or its equivalent, Geometry or its equivalent, and two additional credits of math.
3 Successful completion of Physical Science 9; Biology, Accelerated Biology, or AP® Biology; and 2 additional credits of science taken in grades 9-12 fulfills this requirement (6 credits must be earned in grades 9-12)
4 Health taken in grades 7, 8, 9 does not fulfill this requirement; 2 credits of Fundamentals of Health Professions also fulfills requirement
5 Successful completion of US History 9 is required for graduation and fulfills 2 Humanities credits.
6 Completion of all of the following also meets this requirement: Mktg. 1 Economics, Mktg. 2 Promotions, Mktg. 3 Entrepreneurship/Creating Your Own Business; and Mktg. 4 Business Management/Sports & Entertainment
7 French 1 and Spanish 1 taken in 7th and 8th grades qualify for graduation credit
Financial Literacy - 1 credit (Class of 2024 and beyond.)
Class of 23-24 will be fulfilled by Economics
Class of 24-25 will be fulfilled by Economics
Class of 25-26 will be fulfilled by Economics
Class of 26-27 and beyond will be required to take Financial Literacy in 9th Grade.
Personal Business Finance also fulfills this requirement.
Completion of Marketing I, II, III, and IV also completes the requirement.
In 23/24, students who attended TVMSC and completed Research will fulfill the requirement
Additional Graduation Requirements
College Entrance Exam
Participation only.
Special Education students are required to participate unless otherwise stated in IEP.
Students enrolled in an LEP program for less than three academic years can request an exemption.
Students transferring from out of state during 12th grade can request an exemption.
School District can request an exemption for a student in extenuating circumstances.
This requirement is waived for the Class of 2022.
Senior Project
Must include elements of research, development of thesis, and presentation.
Completion of a postsecondary certificate or degree or an approved internship/apprenticeship program may also meet this requirement.
Civics Exam
Passing grade of 60% is required.
Special Education students are required to pass the exam unless otherwise stated in IEP.
Any student who does not pass will be reassessed.
Any student transferring from out of state and enrolls after spring break of their senior year will be waived from taking the civics exam.
C-Core
Students must have a GPA average of 2.0 in the following 29 core classes: English, Speech, Social Studies, Mathematics, Science, and Health.
Students who do not meet the C-core graduation requirement may alternately satisfy this requirement by meeting the following PSAT cut scores in order to demonstrate proficiency:
Math 17.5
Reading 17
Writing 16
Students who do not meet the PSAT cut scores may alternately satisfy this requirement by passing the Option II tests for Math and ELA (reading and writing combined). Students are only required to test in the subject areas that were not passed. Students can take the Option II test up to three times. In order to demonstrate proficiency, a student meet the following cut scores:
Math 20
ELA 16
5. Students must be full time, taking 5 credits or more, during their last semester in order to earn a Boise School District diploma.
Credit Maximums
The following are the maximum number of credits to be counted toward graduation in each of these classifications:
One athletic fitness credit per semester in grades 10-12 after completion of the Physical Education requirement.
Four service credits in grades 9 through 12. Service credits include classroom aides, library aides, and office aides. No more than two such credits may be taken in a given year.
Core of Instruction
Students must pass all 48 credits in order to graduate. Additionally, they must either have a 2.0 grade point average (GPA) in the following core classes OR demonstrate satisfactory achievement in area(s) of deficiency.
