FAQs

Can you request certain teachers?

Counselors work very hard to make sure that class sizes remain optimal, and the student load of each teacher must be balanced very carefully. Because of this, we are not able to grant requests for certain teachers. In addition, we believe that your student will receive an excellent academic experience with any of our teachers at Boise High!

Is a student required to take 7 classes a day?

No, IF a student is in good credit standing and is on track to graduate. If a student is requesting an unscheduled ("free") period, they must have a form signed by a parent and returned to the counselor. Forms can be picked up in the counseling office. If a student has an unscheduled period they are not required to stay on campus and their attendance is not taken during that period. If a student wants to stay on campus during their unscheduled period, they need to make arrangements with a teacher, administrator, or the librarian as to where they can be located. In this situation, a Teacher's Aide might be a preferable choice.

Can students take a study hall?

We do not offer study halls. For students who are struggling to complete homework because of extenuating circumstances, we offer a class called Academic Support. See your counselor for more details.

Can classes be taken online?

Yes, numerous classes are available online. Popular choices are Health, Economics, and Speech. We use the Idaho Digital Learning Academy (IDLA) as our main online course provider. Classes are $75 per credit. This cost can be covered by Advanced Opportunities/Fast Forward funds if the student is enrolled in 6 or more courses at Boise High. See you counselor for details on how to sign up.

If a student re-takes a class, does it show up on the transcript?

Not really. If a student takes the exact same class for the second time, only the higher grade will be put on the transcript. There is a place on the bottom of the transcript in the fine print that indicates if a student has re-taken the course, but it does not specify which course, or the original grade they received.
