6th Grade Concert Band Syllabus Mr. Tuite, Mr. Shevock, Mr. Ruggieri

Welcome to Band! Band meets 2nd period everyday. In 6th grade band we will build on our skills from the previous year, and learn to perform more complex, interesting, and fun music. I will communicate with students and parents through 1. Student and parent emails. 2. Google Classroom (mehag7o), and 3. Remind.

There are TWO concerts for the 5th grade band:
Winter Concert: BHS BPAC - Thursday, January 11, 2024 - 7:00 PM. Spring Concert: BHS BPAC - Thursday, May 2, 2024 - 7:00 PM.

Optional: We are inviting the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade bands to perform with the Boardman Spartan Marching Band! This will take place during pregame at our September 22 home game. More details to come!

Students will need to bring the following “stuff” to class everyday: Instrument
Book: Provided by the school
Pencil, Folder, Name Tag

Supplies for your instrument:

Woodwinds; reeds, reed guard, swab, cork grease etc. Brass; Valve, slide, or rotor oil, BERP, etc.
Percussion; stick bag with snare sticks and mallets

Students will be graded on the following (O,S,U scale):
Daily participation and “having your stuff” - 3 points per day
Monthly practice records/performance goals - 30 points per month Checkoff sheet (1 per concert) - 100 points
Concert attendance (2 concerts: Mandatory!) - 300 points per concert Private lessons - 75 points extra credit per nine weeks

Discipline Policy:
Any behavior issues will be recorded by the teachers. If a negative behavior becomes frequent, we will contact you via email or phone call. If this intervention does not stem the behavior, the student will be referred to the office.
Private Lessons:
All students are strongly encouraged to take private lessons. Lessons are required for percussionists. Check the band website for a list of music department approved private teachers.
