5th Grade Band:
5th grade band is a year long music class that meets 5 days a week. Also known as "beginning band," this is where students get their first experiences playing traditional band instruments. Students learn to read and perform beginning level arrangements and compositions. Students will perform in two concerts during the school year.
6th Grade Band:
6th grade band is a year long music class that meets three days a week. In 6th grade band, students build on the fundamentals learned in 5th grade, and expand their musical vocabulary. 6th graders will perform increasingly complex compositions in multiple keys, and meters. As they develop their skills on their various instruments, they will also begin to explore more advanced concepts of musical expression such as dynamic contrast. 6th grade band performs two concerts during the school year.
Students in 5th and 6th grade band will be graded on the "O,S,U" scale. They will receive 10 points per day for having ALL required materials. They will also receive 30 points per month for recording the amount of minutes that they practice per day, and week, and then submitting that information on Google classroom. Bonus points will be awarded for students who take private lessons. Concert performances are mandatory, and are worth 300 points. Please check the dates and make sure that your student is able to attend that evening.
