Last week: It took longer than expected, but I managed to finish one of my goals: submitting my manuscript for publication. WOO. Done with that for a little bit. I wasn’t exceptionally productive last week, but at least I kept working.
This week’s goals:
1. Results II chapter
- methods section (~4 pgs)
- results section (~4 pgs)
(I am leaving a little extra time this week because I will probably need to run extra stats.)
Monday 13 June 2016 (Library 1:45 PM - 4:15 PM)
To do: Results II—update methods section, see what I can make of the stats I already ran
Done: Methods updated. Working out table of study group characteristics.
Went through data—had to remove some participants. Will likely include more measurements. (Will definitely need to rerun stats this week!)
Notes: Kind of slow going, but kept working. Good job, me. *pats back*
Grateful I took some time away from this paper (although maybe more than needed…) since that gave me time to think about what I was actually trying to accomplish with this one.
Tuesday 14 June 2016 (Kate’s 2:30 PM - 5:15 PM)
To do: Results II—update data
Done: ½ data updated.
(kitchen 10:00 PM - 11:00 PM)
To do: Finish data update.
Done: Finish data update.
Wednesday 15 June 2016 (Library 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM)
To do: Results II—rerun data.
Done: data reorganized
Thursday 16 June 2016 (Kate’s 12:15 PM - 2:30 PM)
To do: Results II—rerun data

Week of 20 June 2016
Last week:
This week’s goals:
1. Results II chapter
- results section (~4 pages)
- discussion session (~2 pages)
2. Hilo abstract - DUE SATURDAY 25 JUNE
This is the same topic as the Results II chapter
Monday 20 June 2016
Tuesday 21 June 2016
Wednesday 22 June 2016
A slight change of plans: I stopped by my prof’s office to discuss stats with him. SO VERY HELPFUL. He was able to help me clarify what I’m trying to do statistically in this chapter/paper/abstract, as well as show me how to do it.
Thursday 23 June 2016 (Kate’s 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM)
To do: Finish abstract and send to coauthors for checkover.
Done: Run extra stats.
Week of 1 August 2016
Last month: Fieldwork went well. I was feeling a bit itchy to get back to writing and feeling productive (mostly during the last week, when my part of the survey was effectively finished).
NB: I submitted 2 mss for publication earlier this year; I got rejection emails on both of them while I was away. That will be something else I’ll have to work on now that I am back—although it may wait until semester starts, since I haven’t heard anything from either PI on those!
This week’s goals:
1. Run stats for Results II chapter/Hilo conference paper (same paper)
Monday 1 August 2016
To do: Talk to prof. about stats, because I can’t remember how to do them!
Done: Talked to prof. about stats (and wrote the instructions down this time!).
Tuesday 2 August 2016 (Library 1:30 PM - 3:30 PM)
To do: Set up charts for variables; run 1-3 variables
Done: None of the goals. :/ System update I did yesterday required me to install new software just to open stats package, then the book I was using for reference was no longer available on Google Books, so I had to get it at SciLi (before they closed). *headdesk*
(I suppose I would have needed to do those things anyway.)
(And I did run 1 test on 1 variable, and realized I could do it pretty quickly after yesterday’s refresh. So I suppose the day wasn’t a total bust.)
Wednesday 3 August 2016 (Library 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM)
A little earlier than usual today; went to friend’s colloquium in the morning.
To do: Set up charts for variables. Run 1-3 variables.
Done: Set up charts for all variables to be run.
Run 1 variable. (Left book I checked out yesterday at home—need that to figure out how to interpret the results.)
Thursday 4 August 2016
[oops, I forgot to update on Thursday and now I forget what I did]
Friday 5 August 2016 (Library 2:00 PM - 3:30 PM)
To do: Run 1-3 variables.
Done: Finish running a variable from earlier in the week. Question if I am doing calculations correctly. Leave a bit early to go ask prof about that. (He reassured me I was not insane.)
