NCAA Student Athletes

Do you believe you have the potential to play a Division I or II sport? If so, you need to become familiar with the NCAA.

The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) is a non-profit association that regulates athletes of 1,281 institutions, conferences, organizations, and individuals that organizes the athletic programs of many colleges and universities in the United States and Canada.

In August 1973, the current three-division setup of Division I, Division II, and Division III was adopted by the NCAA membership in a special convention. Under NCAA rules, Division I and Division II schools can offer scholarships to athletes for playing a sport. Division III schools may not offer any athletic scholarships. Generally, larger schools compete in Division I and smaller schools in II and III.

Any prospective college student needs to register with the NCAA through their clearinghouse. Please note, there are very specific course and grade requirements to participate in a Division I or Division II team. Approximately 25% of the core courses at HHS are not NCAA approved. It is the student’s responsibility to make sure he/she is taking the correct courses in high school in order to meet the eligibility criteria for a Division I or II institution. For more information, please contact the NCAA directly.
