Hello Pates. I hope you are enjoying your long weekend so far.
The band had another strong showing at Friday's home game against Parkland. The pregame show looked and sounded excellent. The halftime show made some improvements to last week's performance. Progress is being made. Look for more additions to the shows each week.
The orchestra has started working on our holiday music for the December concerts and have played through all music we will be using for the national honor society induction on October 14. Everyone in both the band and orchestra are engaged, focused and participating. Great job on our first two weeks everyone!
This week Freedom and Liberty will be participating in "The Climb", a fundraiser for Tunnels to Tower. On Friday, Freedom students who wish to participate will be bussed over to the BASD stadium to attend an information event about the 25th anniversary of 9/11 and also climb 2200 steps in the stadium or take laps around the track. This is to remember the victims of 9/11 who lost their lives, and so we hopefully, never forget what happened. The band will be bussed over at the beginning of 2nd block and will play as students arrive into the stadium, along with Liberty's band. Any band member wishing to participate in the climb must complete the registration form and turn in $10 to their 2nd block teacher or Mrs. Volpato if you are in choir. All completed forms and money are due by Wednesday Sept. 9. Choir students will bus over with the choir. Band members not participating will be bussed back after we are done playing. You will be responsible for your lunch at Freedom. Those staying to do the Climb will have lunch provided for them and bussed back before the end of 4th block. I encourage all to participate but it is not required. All band members must however go over to play. If you have any questions about this, email or talk to me on Tuesday.
Wednesday is Freedom's Fall open house. All parents are encouraged to attend. It starts at 6:30m in the auditorium. Trombones playing the national anthem for this, please be in the band room at 6:00pm. I look forward to seeing parents on Wednesday.
Mrs. Kashner and the uniform moms need to have the following students bring parts of their uniform in on THURSDAY at 7:00am to the loading dock to exchange them before Friday's game:
Jackson Andreoli - Jacket
Autumn Baker- Jacket
Zachary Bonar - Jacket
Lilly Campbell - Pants
James Chu-Paul - Jacket
Ny'Zaiah Wyman - Jacket and Pants
Liam Walczak - Pants
Band Members: When getting dressed for games, make sure your pants are pulled all the way up. The top of the pants should touch the mid chest. You may need someone to help you adjust the straps so that the pants sit in the proper position. Several band members are not utilizing the straps to pull up the pants, and the hems are dragging. This will result in frayed hems. Also, hopefully everyone has been airing out their uniforms on separate hangers after the last 2 games. Please take your uniforms to get drycleaned if you know you've been very sweaty the past 2 weeks. Suggested dry cleaners are listed in the August newsletter.
Looking ahead:
Sept. 16 - FHSBOPO general meeting, 7:00pm in the bandroom
Sept. 18 - Football away at Nazareth HS, 7:00pm
Sept. 25 - Homecoming
Sept. 26 - Celtic Classic Parade, 11:30am step-off
Enjoy your day off Monday. Remember 9/11!
