There are many options for iPads to stream video. We will discuss at least two methods in this Workshop: SWIVL & THE CUBE.
(I.) SWIVL: The Swivl solution includes a robot that follows the mic around automatically. It also includes:
The Swivl Capture App (free) downloaded from the App Store. There are other Swivl Apps (time lapse, etc. ) that you may wish to use as well.
Swivl cloud storage space where you upload and share videos. You can also download videos from Swivl cloud to place on a Website, shared folder, or blog.
Things to be aware of:
The Swivl should be charged (remote and mic are charged while housed inside the Swivl robot) to work properly
The Swivl needs updates on occasion. Allow time for updates.
The IOS device (iPad/iPhone/iPod) must be "paired" to the Swivl using BlueTooth.
The IOS device must be fully charged.
Select the correct spacer for the device you are using. Each Swivl comes with 3 spacers to grip the appropriate device.
You may set your Swivl on a table top or secure to a tripod. Make sure it is at the height you need for what you are filming AND that it will not get knocked over or knocked off its location.
Use the Back Camera so that you can use the Swivl Menu on the front of your IOS device.
You will need a Swivl Cloud account (FREE). You can sign up for that on a PC at -- https://cloud.swivl.com/register/
This is where your videos will automatically upload to.
This is where you are given URLs to share your videos OR you can download your videos from here and put them where ever you like (share folder, Website, blog, etc.)
Since you get limited space in Swivl Cloud, I download all my videos and store them in my Google Drive Folders.
You will use your Swivl Cloud username and password to view your videos on a PC AND you will use it to setup your IOS device for uploading to Swivl Cloud. Don't forget this username and password!
Your Swivl Cloud will have Tutorial Slides & step-by-step Video available to you when you login. You can actually edit the slides to fit into your own video.
Swivl allows you to upload slides and videos, put them together in a project, View the project, Share the project (you will get a URL to share), and finally, to Export a video back to your PC.
You will get an email from Swivl when your video has been processed and ready for sharing or downloading.
Please realize that you do NOT have to have the robot to use Swivl Cloud. You can move your iPad yourself and upload to Swivl cloud as long as you have the App.
BRAINSTORM: How can this be used in your classroom?
(II) YOUTUBE (TIGERVISION) allows you to create your own video Channel. ARP ISD example -TigerVision. You are able to upload unlimited videos for streaming (real-time) events OR for recorded events.
Capture Videos from ANY device and upload them to your Channel OR
Stream Videos LIVE from ANY device so that "Followers" can view the event in real-time. A real-time event will also be recorded for later viewing.
What you Need:
iPAD & Video uploaded to YouTube
You can make your channel PRIVATE and only share with your students.
