Virtual Learning Tips for students:
· Stick to your class schedule and maintain structure every day as if you were in school
· Use some type of calendar system, such as a planner, digital calendar (Google calendar, etc.), paper calendar, or white board
o Use organizational methods such as color coding, flagging certain assignments, etc.
o Write down your assignments and due dates as soon as you learn of them
· Create to-do list/plan daily
o Set daily goals, if needed, to stay on track
o Plan to tackle the hardest/most time-consuming task first
· Designate a dedicated work space separate from your bedroom (this ensures that you are able to differentiate between work and play/rest)
o Turn off TV, put away cell phone and close browser tabs not related to school
o Limit distractions such as online games and social media during school hours
· Have everything you need at your workspace at the beginning of the day
· Check your Schoology (for assignments), PowerSchool (for grades), and Email (for communications) throughout the school day
· Reach out to your teachers for additional help. Email is the easiest way to communicate with teachers.
· Request a peer tutor from Dr. Watson (attached below)
· Arrive to class 3-5 minutes early
· Take a short break after 30 minutes of screen time or textbook reading
o Get a snack, take a walk, drink some water, stretch
· Finish one assignment before you start another
· Prioritize assignments by due date
o Plan large projects ahead
· Actively participate in class and in discussions by keeping your camera on
· Once you figure out what works, stick with it
How to pay attention in a virtual class:
· Get plenty of sleep the night before, eat a healthy breakfast, and stay hydrated. Try to avoid too much caffeine of energy drinks
· Make sure you’ve read the assigned reading or completed the homework assigned before entering class. It’s easier to for the material to be absorbed if you have some knowledge of it.
· Prepare mentally for your classes, arrive early
· School should be your priority. This is your job.
· Put away all distractions
· Sit up straight and face the screen. Turn your camera on. Be prepared to type in the chat.
· Take notes in class. Focusing on writing down the main ideas of your lessons will keep your mind in the classroom.
· Participating in your class discussions can also help you pay more attention, as well as have a more enriching learning experience
