2026 Summer Residential Governor's School
We are beginning to accept applications for the 2026 Summer Residential Governor’s School programs. The programs are open to current, mature sophomores and current juniors. The following is a list of the programs offered and dates:
Summer Residential Governor’s Mentorship in Engineering

Summer Residential Governor’s School for Visual and Performing Arts (Deadline to apply has passed)

Students: If you are interested in applying to any of these programs, please plan to attend either Information Session on Tuesday, October 28 or Thursday, October 30 at 12:00 p.m. in Room 118 to review the application process.
Completed applications for the SRGS for Visual and Performing Arts are due *Wednesday, November 12, 2025. All VPA applicants are required to participate in a virtual adjudication by uploading videos. More information will be shared regarding the virtual adjudication process. Students will have a six week window (December 3, 2025 – January 14, 2026) to upload their adjudication video. Recommendation letters and forms will be due Monday, January 12, 2026.
Completed applications for all other programs are due Monday, January 12, 2026.

Applications must be neatly typed using the fillable .pdf application. Your application is judged and the score will be used in the nomination process.
2026 Governor's World Language Academies (GWLA)
We are now accepting applications for the 2026 Governor's World Language Academies (GWLA). The programs are open to current juniors and mature sophomores. The following is a list of the programs offered and dates:
Governor's French, German, and Spanish Academies (Full Immersion)
June 20 - July 11, 2026
Washington & Lee University, Lexington, VA
· program is full-immersion
· must have completed at least level three of the language prior to the beginning of the Academy must have developed good proficiency in using the language
· must be willing to use target language for all social and academic interactions
Governor's Japanese Academy (Partial Immersion)
June /July 2026, Exact dates and location TBA
· program is partial-immersion
· must have completed at least level two of any language prior to the beginning of the Academy
· program designed for beginners, must not be fluent or proficient speakers of Japanese
· students applying are not required to have previously studied Japanese, students who are currently studying Japanese (either independently or school sponsored) are encouraged to apply
Governor's Latin Academy (Partial Immersion)
June /July 2026, Exact dates and location TBA
· must have completed at least level two of Latin prior to the beginning of the Academy

Applications for all Academies must be completed in the online portal no later than Friday, December 12, 2025.
Students may not apply for the Virginia Governor's World Language Academies (GWLA) and the Summer Residential Governor's School (SRGS) in the same year. They can only attend one program, either GWLA or SRGS, during their high school career.
Nominated students for the Spanish, German, and French Academies will be tested on their listening, writing, and speaking abilities. Nominated Latin students will be tested on reading comprehension and will write a composition in English on a Roman theme. Nominated Japanese students who have any experience in learning Japanese should take the Japanese assessment to determine class placement if accepted. Test results for Japanese will only be used to determine class composition and will not be counted in the application scoring. The testing will be administered in January.
