The first Nebraska Alpha Delta Kappa Chapter initiated sixteen Alpha Chapter members on Dec. 8, 1951. Nebraska Alpha Delta Kappa was organized on Nov. 9, 1957 with 4 chapters: Alpha, Beta, Delta, and Gamma. Agnes Shipman Robertson installed the Nebraska State Officers at Kay’s Fine Foods Café. The first State President was Helen Kruse, Beta Chapter, in 1958-1960.
Nebraska Alpha Delta Kappa began a Nebraska State Scholarship Award in May of 1960 to provide encouragement and support for our sisters. Nebraska awards two (2) $500 scholarships per year.
Nebraska Alpha Delta Kappa began a Hall of Fame award in 1993. Leadership wanted to honor our distinguished Nebraska Alpha Delta Kappa members. Currently, all past state presidents and outstanding members have joined the Hall of Fame.
Nebraska members share their compassion for their time and talents through altruism projects and activities in their local communities and schools. At the state level, the first Nebraska State Altruism Project began in April 1984. $1,000 was given to the Children’s Memorial Hospital. In April 1985, $1000 was given to the Carolyn Scott Rainbow House in Omaha. Our support has continued in each biennium to the present time. The Alpha Delta Kappa Zeta Chapter located in Omaha bakes cookies once a week at the Rainbow House. They furnish a dinner once a month. In 2006, a second altruism project was approved. Currently, Nebraska supports Angels Among Us as the second altruism project.
Nebraska Alpha Delta Kappa Chapters show their commitment to Alpha Delta Kappa by providing a World Understanding program or project each year. Chapters are recognized for their World Understanding accomplishments.
