Events

All PTO-sponsored events are posted on the Alexandria School District Calendar and the PTO Calendar.

We hope you will join us by volunteering and attending these PTO-sponsored activities throughout the year. For more information about these events, please contact the committee chairperson.

Art Helpers

Parents with children in grades Pre-kindergarten through 3rd Grade can volunteer to help during their child's art classes. No art experience is needed - just an extra pair of hands to pass out art supplies and assist children.

Back-to-school Teacher Luncheon

Each September, the PTO holds a luncheon to welcome the LDW and AMS Teachers back for the new school year. In addition to lunch, several lucky teachers also receive free door prizes.

Bedtime Stories

Mrs. Kacedon and teachers from Kindergarten through 3rd Grade help kick-off the LDW Book Fairs (Fall and Spring) by reading picture books (projected on a large screen) to students lounging in PJs and blankets in the LDW gym. (Chairs: Cathy D'Alessio and Whitney Reynolds)

Book Fairs

Twice a year (Fall and Spring), parents and students have the opportunity to purchase the latest and greatest books from Scholastic and help raise money and earn books for our schools in the process. (Chairs: Jim Lechner and Nadine Boetsch)

BoxTops for Education

Throughout the year, students are encouraged to clip and submit Box-top Coupons from Participating Products. The Box-tops Program helps to earn $$ for our schools. The classroom that submits the most Box Tops by the end of the school year wins a free pizza party in May. See the Box Tops tab for more information.

Cultural Arts

Dedicated parent and teacher volunteers organize some wonderful workshops for students that compliment what they are learning in class and inspire further exploration in art (cartoons, murals, & pottery), science (astronomy, physics, earth sciences, and ecology), architecture & math, storytelling, as well as thought-provoking assemblies on diversity/discrimination, violence prevention, personal identity and responsibility.

Donuts with Dad / Muffins with Mom

Special days in March and May when students in Kindergarten through 3rd Graders eat breakfast at school with their father, mother, or special person in their lives. Food and craft activties are provided by the PTO. (Chairs: Dawn Cavagnaro and Jen Dierker)

Field Day

Each spring, the PTO sponsors a day of family games and sports. It's a great way to have fun together as a community. (Chairs: Vicky Dumont and Shery Pryszlak)

Food Pantry

Students help collect dry foods & toiletries for those less fortunate in our community and support the Frenchtown Food Pantry. Collection bins are located at the entrance of each school. (Chair: Melanie Levy)

Graduation Awards for Eighth Graders

We proudly support our Grads by sponsoring several cash awards based on merit in different areas.

Holiday Shop

Students have the opportunity to purchase reasonably priced gifts for family and friends in late November/early December before the winter holidays. The children have a blast shopping at school and sharpen their math skills by determining what they can buy with their money. You can find the dates on the PTO Calendar. (Chairs: Tara Werner and Melanie Levy)

Library Buddies

Parents with children in grades Pre-kindergarten through 3rd Grade can volunteer to help during their child's library classes. No experience is needed - just an extra pair of hands to assist the children.

Lunch Helpers

Parents with children in grades Kindergarten and 1st Grade can volunteer to help during their child's lunch. No experience needed - just an extra pair of hands to assist the children.

Mother's Day Plant Sale

Students in grades Kindergarten through 3rd Grade have the opportunity to purchase reasonably-priced, flowering plants for their moms in the Spring. (Chairs: Diane Kassai and Shery Pryszlak)

Mother & Son / Father & Daughter Events

Every other Spring, 3rd- and 4th-grade girls have an opportunity to attend a special dance at AMS with their fathers, while 3rd- and 4th-grade boys enjoy an outing with their mothers sponsored by the PTO. (Chair: Michelle Small)

Move-up Day

Each May, a day of events is planned for 3rd Graders to prepare and motivate them for moving up to 4th Grade at AMS. Each student receives a specially-designed "Class of 20XX" t-shirt that lists all of the 3rd-grade students' names on it. Students are then bused to AMS to visit the 4th-grade classrooms and take part in several activities, followed by a dance performance put on by AMS students. Afterwards, students are bused back to LDW for outside activities and snow cones.

Red Ribbon Week

A fun-filled week is planned every October to promote healthy living that is free of drugs.

Room Parents

Volunteer PTO parents help to organize class holiday parties and other special projects for which teachers may need helpers. See the Room Parent tab for more information.

"Thank You" LDW

In May each year, 3rd Graders celebrate their time at LDW and say "Thank You" by taking part in a show, where they perform talent acts of their own creation (both individual and small group acts). Students attend 2 - 4 practices to prepare for the event.

Teacher Appreciation Week

The first full week in May is dedicated to saying "THANK YOU" to our wonderful faculty and staff through baked goodies, gifts, and a luncheon.
